ACT drives for change on record-breaking Golf Day

The 2025 ACT Golf Day contingent.

The Kids’ Cancer Project’s maiden Golf Day of 2025, held at the Federal Golf Club in Canberra, saw a record amount of funds raised in the nation’s capital on a cloudless day.

18 teams – our highest ever at the venue – helped us raise over $34,000 in a record total for the organisation’s golf days in the ACT.

Attendees were addressed by The Kids’ Cancer Project Ambassador and childhood cancer survivor, Nathan Rix, who told of overcoming the adversities of being diagnosed and treated for sarcoma.

“I’m not going to stand here and say losing a leg was easy, but it was nothing compared to the invasive treatment I went through as a kid,” he says.

The team from ICON Canberra were in attendance last Friday.

“During my time in ICU I was given the last rites three times. After countless operations, six weeks radiation, 12 months of intense chemo and ten days in a coma, I was given the green light.

“During the hardest time in your life, the good people in the world shine.
"Because of this, I know how important it is to give back on days like today.”

The Kids’ Cancer Project CEO, Owen Finegan, was also on hand in Canberra.

I would like to thank each of the event sponsors, partners and attendees who made our 2025 ACT Golf Day possible. It was wonderful to see returning and fresh faces take to the course for a cause.

“Without continued support through days like this, we would be unable to work towards our dream of no child dying from cancer, so we’re extremely thankful for all who came along and helped play their part.”

Several attendees took home prizes following the day’s play. A three-day VIP pass to the NRL‘s Magic Round – held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium – headlined the list of auction items.

The package, kindly donated by the National Rugby League, including a money-can’t-buy experience on the field of play, sold for some $3,000, with all funds donated to childhood cancer research.
