K’day, which stands for Kids’ Day, is The Kids’ Cancer Project’s annual double donation day, raising awareness and vital funds for childhood cancer research. We've got everything you need to know and how you can get involved below.
What is K’day and when is it?
On 15 February, International Childhood Cancer Day, we replace the Aussie favourite G’day with K’day in recognition of the 950 kids diagnosed with cancer every year in Australia and the need to create better treatments for them. On K’day any donation made, is doubled by our generous matching partners.
Why do we have K’day?
K’day gives us an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
In the 32 years since The Kids’ Cancer Project was founded, we’ve seen survival rates go from a 50/50 chance to 86%, which can be solely attributed to advancement in research.
That’s no coincidence, but we’re not done yet.
Currently, three Aussie kids each day are diagnosed with cancer. By the end of that week, three Aussie kids will have died. Research is the only way to save lives and improve outcomes.
Childhood cancer research is currently under-funded by state and federal governments, meaning that charitable donations are key to the advancement of research and ensuring that better treatments can be discovered.
By having K'day, we can ensure we’re providing more funds sooner for researchers working to improve the lives of kids with cancer.
How does the double donation work?
Our incredible matching partners provide a sum of money that will be utilised to double the donations made by the public. Some of these are major donors, others are corporate partners like Blue Sky Services, Croft, Pan Civil, GJK Facility Services and The Rix Group.
These companies and individuals are what makes K’day twice as special as any other day, and we thank them for their generous contributions.
Where does my money go?
The money you kindly donate on K’day will directly fund researchers' intent on finding better treatments for childhood cancers.
Research is important because knowledge shapes how we diagnose, treat, and improve the lives of children with cancer.
There are many different types of research that focus on different aspects of the cancer journey, because there are so many things that are part of that pipeline.
The funds you donate could directly benefit our K’day 2025 research ambassador, Rachel Edwards (pictured above). Read Rachel’s story here.
