The Kids’ Cancer Project’s annual double donation day, K’day, held Saturday 15 February, was a resounding success, raising a record $502,000 for childhood cancer research, smashing our target. The total brings us to an unprecedented $1.4 million raised through K’day over its three-year history.
The Kids’ Cancer Project and its ambassadors, lymphoma survivor Millie Trustum and Col Reynolds Fellow, Rachel Edwards, embarked on a campaign in the weeks leading up to International Childhood Cancer Day on 15 February, raising awareness and funds for kids with cancer.
You may have heard Millie and her dad, Kevin, take to the airwaves, or Spotify ads, or even saw Millie on the back of a bus! We even took to the world famous Coogee Promenade, handing out our iconic K’day bucket hats, provided by Sands Promotions, on the ground while a plane in the sky wrote the word K’day above the shoreline.
Through the generosity of the general public and our incredible matching partners – Pan Civil, Blue Sky Services, Gaudry Foundation, Rix Specialist Contracting, Croft, The Prescott Family Foundation and GJK Facility Services – we were able to raise $502,000, smashing our target of $500,000.
The Kids’ Cancer Project CEO, Owen Finegan, says he is ecstatic with the outcome.
“I would like to thank each member of the public and our matching partners for their incredible donations. It’s support like yours that ensures that one day we will achieve our dream of no child dying from cancer,” he says.
“This is a truly phenomenal achievement, showing solidarity with childhood cancer patients the world over on International Childhood Cancer Day.”
13-year-old Millie says she is grateful to each of the donors that dug deep to help kids like her.
“I am so thankful to everyone who donated to The Kids’ Cancer Project this K’day.”
If you were inspired by Millie or Rachel’s journey and K’day, you can even make another donation. Every kid should be able to grow up, and your gift enables researchers to find better treatments for kids with cancer.
