The promise that we will find a cure is the fuse that has lit the fire inside The Kids’ Cancer Project board member Jessie Glew, who is intent on helping the foundation in any way she can.
The joint MD and COO of co-working outfit WOTSO, Jessie brings not only a wealth of business knowledge, but a wealth of enthusiasm. Her relationship with The Kids’ Cancer Project began eight years ago, which put her on the path to the present day as an esteemed member of our exceptional board.
“I attended a lunch where we heard about a young boy's cancer journey. I was so touched by his story that after the lunch, a group of 30 of us decided to shave our heads,” Jessie recalls.
“We ended up raising $60,000, and in that moment, I realised the impact that each of us can have and the difference we can make. Since that point, I have been motivated to help in any way I can with The Kids’ Cancer Project.”
Jessie knows all too well just how crucial each contribution from our amazing donors is, irrespective of context or circumstance.
“It’s easy to think we can’t make a difference, but we can. One person can make a difference, one person can talk about The Kids’ Cancer Project and that single conversation means that one more person now knows about and supports the charity’s mission.”
With over 15 years of experience in the property industry, it’s fair to say Jessie’s been to her fair share of events, but there’s only a few she keeps close to her heart.
“I love all of The Kids’ Cancer Project’s events, but all for different reasons,” she says.
“The golf days are great for laughs with friends but also for their capacity to show people from different businesses the work The Kids’ Cancer Project does and how they can be a part of that.
“I love the Christmas for Cure lunch too, there’s such a positive feeling in the room – it’s a time when all these wonderful businesses can sit together and really take in what we’re achieving together, it’s so special.”
Speaking on her aspirations as a board member, Jessie is committed to ensuring The Kids’ Cancer Project realises its largely untapped potential.
“Very simply, I want to maximise the value of every dollar donated that will help to grow the survival rate for kids with cancer. The Kids’ Cancer Project does incredible work and it would be amazing to see it be known across Australia and New Zealand as the cancer research charity of choice.”
